According to Newsru, on the evening of March 3rd, Israeli Finance Minister Besariel Smotri ć signed a law to increase the sales tax on tobacco products. The signing of this law means that the prices of Israeli tobacco, cigarettes, and e-cigarette e-liquid will rise comprehensively from March 4th.
The specific plan for this price adjustment includes: the price of each pack of cigarettes will increase by 2 shekels (0.56 US dollars), the price of tobacco per gram will increase by 0.13 shekels (0.036 US dollars), and the price of e-cigarette e-liquid will increase by 1 shekels (0.28 US dollars) per milliliter.
This move is expected to bring approximately 400 million shekels ($112146912.4) of revenue to the Israeli treasury, thereby helping to reduce the budget deficit. Although this tobacco tax adjustment will bring a direct burden to smokers, some experts believe that this move is beneficial for the government to strengthen the management of tobacco products and may promote the public to reduce smoking behavior and form healthier lifestyle habits.
